Redressal of Grievances / Appeals of Students

The Students Grievances Redressal Committee (SGRC) is an important committee of Sreenidhi University. The establishment of SGRC emphasizes the commitment of Sreenidhi University to the student’s welfare, transparency, and accountability. SGRC serves as a channel for students to express their concerns, complaints, and grievances.

SGRC is responsible for receiving the grievances from students related to academics, administration, or personal matters and ensures that the complaints are processed promptly and fairly. All the grievances are processed as per the UGC regulations.

Procedure for Redressal of Grievances by the SGRC

  • 1. Any aggrieved student may submit an online or offline application seeking redressal of grievance to the Student Grievance Redressal Committee.
  • 2. On receipt of complaint, the Chairperson of the SGRC may refer to the appropriate Committee if required, along with the comments.
  • 3. Students Grievances Redressal Committee, as the case may be, shall fix a date for hearing the complaint which shall be communicated to the aggrieved student.
  • 4. An aggrieved student shall appear either in person or authorize a representative to present the case.
  • 5. In case the grievance is not able to be resolved by the SGRC, then the such a case may be referred to the Ombudsman by the University.
  • 6. The Ombudsman shall, after giving reasonable opportunities of being heard to the parties concerned, on the conclusion of proceedings, pass such order, with reasons thereof, as may be deemed fit to redress the grievance and provide such relief as may be appropriate to the aggrieved student.


  • 7. The Ombudsman may recommend appropriate action against the complainant, where a complaint is found to be false or frivolous.

The Ombudsman shall hear the grievances / appeals from an aggrieved student, only after the student has availed all other remedies provided by the SGRC.

Anti-Ragging Cell

Ragging in any form is strictly prohibited throughout Sreenidhi University. This includes all departments and premises — academic buildings, hostels, canteens, mess areas, residential spaces, sports zones, and transportation (both public and private). The ban applies to every corner of the university, whether within or outside campus boundaries.

In accordance with UGC regulations and to maintain a safe and respectful environment for all students, the Vice-Chancellor has constituted an Anti-Ragging Committee (ARC) and an Anti-Ragging Squad at the University. These bodies are responsible for monitoring, preventing, and taking prompt action on any incidents of ragging reported on campus.

Ragging in any form is completely banned in the entire University, including its departments and all its premises (Academic, Residential, Sports, Canteen, Mess, Hostel, and all other areas) whether located within the campus or outside, and in all means of transportation of students, whether public or private.

All the students, teaching and non-teaching staff shall have to observe and who observe any case likely to be termed as ragging must ensure that they inform the Anti-Ragging Committee immediately.

The Anti-Ragging Committee shall have to take immediate cognizance of the matter reported as per regulations.

Objectives

  • > The objective of this committee is to ensure prevention, prohibition, and redressing any form of ragging in the University.

Functions

  • > To educate the students on the meaning of ragging and what constitutes it.
  • > To educate the students on the ill-effects of ragging and the consequences, including legal consequences of indulging in ragging.
  • > To conduct awareness programs on the menace of ragging, its impact, consequences, and redressal mechanism available.
  • > To enquire into any instances of ragging that have been reported, and if necessary, take all appropriate action against the students found to have indulged in ragging.
  • > Assist the University in notifying the appropriate authorities in cases of ragging.
  • > Ensure compliance with the provisions of the Regulations as well as any law for the time being in force concerning ragging.
  • > Monitor and oversee the performance of the Anti-Ragging Squad in prevention of ragging in the Institution.

Anti-Ragging Squad

Anti-Ragging Squad

The University has constituted a Team of Staff Members known as the Anti-Ragging Squad nominated by the Vice Chancellor for maintaining vigil, oversight, and patrolling functions and shall remain mobile, alert, and active at all times.

The Anti-Ragging Squad shall have representation from various members of the campus community and shall have no outside representation.

It shall be the duty of the Anti-Ragging Squad to be called upon to make surprise raids on hostels and other places vulnerable to incidents of ragging and having the potential for ragging. The Squad shall be empowered to inspect such places.

The Anti-Ragging Squad is also tasked with conducting on-the-spot enquiries into any incidents of ragging referred to it by any member of the university community. The enquiry report along with recommendations will be submitted to the Anti-Ragging Committee for appropriate action under the regulations.

Internal Complaints Committee

Internal Complaints Committee (ICC)

In accordance with the Guidelines of the UGC (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal of Sexual Harassment of Women Employees and Students in Higher Educational Institutions) Regulations 2015, and as per the legal requirements in the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act 2013, Sreenidhi University has constituted an Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) with an inbuilt mechanism for gender sensitization against sexual harassment.

Objectives

  • The main objective of the ICC is to prevent sexual harassment of women at the workplace and to redress the grievance by looking into the complaints of sexual harassment filed by the women students and women staff members, and adhere to all the rules and regulations stipulated in the relevant legislations.
  • The ICC will uphold the commitment of the University to provide an environment free of gender-based discrimination. Create a secure physical and social environment to deter any act of sexual harassment.

Process of Making Complaint of Sexual Harassment

An aggrieved person is required to submit a written complaint to the ICC within three months from the date of the incident & in case of a series of incidents within a period of three months from the date of the last incident.

Provided that where such complaint cannot be made in writing, the Presiding Officer or any Member of the Internal Committee shall render all reasonable assistance to the person for making the complaint in writing.

ActionAction Against Frivolous Complaint

To ensure that the provisions for the protection of employees & students from sexual harassment do not get misused, provisions against false or malicious complaints have to be made & publicized within the University. If the ICC concludes that the allegations made were false, malicious or the complaint was made knowing it to be untrue, or forged or misleading information has been provided during the inquiry, the complainant shall be liable to be punished as per the provisions.

Equal Opportunity Cell / SEDGs

As per the Sub-Section (1) of Section 26 of the UGC Act, 1956 (3 of 1956), the Equal Opportunity Cell (Promotion of Equity in Higher Educational Institutions) is constituted in Sreenidhi University to take appropriate measures against discrimination and promote equal opportunities.

Objectives of the Equal Opportunity Cell (EOC)

  • Safeguard the interests of the students without any prejudice to their caste, creed, religion, language, ethnicity, gender, and disability.
  • Eliminate discrimination against or harassment of any student in any form in the University by prohibiting it.
  • Provide preventive and protective measures to facilitate eradication and punishment for those who indulge in any form of discrimination or harassment.
  • Promote equity among students of all sections of society.
  • Ensure no discrimination against SC/ST and SEDGs in admissions or access to university benefits.
  • Prohibit harassment or victimization of any student by individuals or authorities.
  • Prohibit any conduct that amounts to ragging by words, actions, or writing.
  • Ensure inclusive, equal, and quality higher education, and implementation of welfare schemes for disadvantaged and marginalized groups, including PWDs.
  • Implement reservation policies in admissions and recruitment, and promote diversity.

Functions of the Equal Opportunity Cell

  • Coordinate with existing cells and statutory bodies to implement schemes including scholarships and fellowships.
  • Ensure equity and bring about social inclusion by enhancing diversity and eliminating discrimination.
  • Create a socially congenial atmosphere for academic interaction and healthy relationships.
  • Provide socio-economic, academic, and emotional support through counselling and mentoring programs.
  • Sensitize the university community on issues faced by SC/ST and disadvantaged groups and promote inclusion.
  • Address grievances of weaker/disadvantaged sections and suggest solutions to prevent discrimination.
  • Ensure barrier-free processes and proper utilization of opportunities in admission and recruitment.
  • Implement bridge courses, Earn-while-learn schemes, and outreach programs for SEDGs and weaker sections.
  • Disseminate welfare scheme information and coordinate with agencies for effective implementation.

Punishments

Any act of discrimination or harassment will be dealt with seriously. Upon receiving a written complaint, the Nodal Officer will initiate follow-up, including an inquiry if needed.

Based on the Nodal Officer’s recommendation, the University will take appropriate action.

In the case of students, the competent authority will act on the inquiry report as per university rules or UGC regulations.

For teachers and staff, the competent authority will act in accordance with service rules and relevant regulations.
